Democrats lead Republicans by 9 points on House generic ballot: Quinnipiac

Democrats lead Republicans by 9 points on the House generic ballot, according to the latest Quinnipiac poll.

That’s a slight uptick from the 7-point lead they held last month in a Monmouth poll. Democrats’ lead on the generic ballot has fluctuated in recent months, but their ability to maintain the advantage is significant as Republicans have pushed messaging that Democrats are losing on immigration policy.

In recent days, Republicans have hammered Democrats for an apparent split in the party on the issue of abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Over the weekend more 2020 hopefuls backed dismantling the agency.

Still, 50 percent of American voters say they would vote for a Democratic House candidate compared to 41 percent who say they would vote for a Republican candidate. Independent voters support a Democratic candidate 49 to 35 percent.

Immigration is the top issue, 27 percent of voters say, in determining how they’ll vote in House races this year. Next is the economy at 23 percent, followed by healthcare at 22 percent and gun policy at 13 percent.
