Harvey Weinstein misses court hearing due to prison flood lockdown


Harvey Weinstein’s hearing scheduled for Friday was delayed due to a flood at his prison.

The Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, where he is being held, flooded, causing the lockdown. The hearing was intended to begin at 8:30 a.m., but it has now been pushed to Wednesday, according to Variety.

Weinstein, who faces 11 charges in the rape and sexual assault of five women, has had repeated trial delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The disgraced Hollywood producer has so far served roughly 2.5 years of his 23-year sentence after he was convicted of rape and sexual assault in a New York trial in February 2020.

In June, Weinstein lost a bid to have his 2020 rape and sexual assault convictions thrown out. The decision by a New York appellate court shot down the argument that he was the victim of misguided rulings by the trial judge, including one that allowed jurors to hear about allegations of misconduct for which he was not charged.

The Crown Prosecution Service, based in the United Kingdom, announced in June that Weinstein would be charged with two counts of indecent assault against a woman from an incident in London in August 1996. It is unclear whether the U.K. will seek Weinstein’s extradition for a trial.

Weinstein is scheduled to go on trial in Los Angeles on Oct. 10
