Smokies park seeking volunteers for high point

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) — Volunteers can reach new heights at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The country’s most popular national park is recruiting volunteers to help staff the visitor contact station at Clingmans Dome through Nov. 30. Clingmans Dome, elevation 6,643 feet, is the highest point in the park.

Volunteers will be trained to educate visitors and provide recreational, trip planning and other information. They will work alongside Great Smoky Mountains Association employees.

The park has 9 million visitors annually.
