House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., who was shot at Republican baseball practice in June in Alexandria, Va., returned to Congress Thursday for the first time since the shooting and later shared a video chronicling his journey to recovery.
“The outpouring of love, warmth, and prayer means so much to me. I am so glad to be back,” Scalise said in shariing the video, titled “I’m Back,” in a tweet.

Upon returning to Congress, Scalise was welcomed by a standing ovation as he made his way to the House chamber.

Scalise was shot in the hip when a gunman opened fire on a group of Republicans practicing for the Congressional Baseball Game. Following the shooting, numerous surgeries were performed on Scalise and during his recovery he had to relearn how to walk.
