The Montgomery County Police Department’s food drive in honor of an officer who died on duty in 2003 ends today.
The food drive, which the department sponsors annually, contributes nonperishable foods and cash to the Captain Joseph A. Mattingly Food Pantry. Mattingly died in a car crash on Sept. 13, 2003.
Donation bins are located at each district station in Montgomery County and police headquarters, and both residents and department members have contributed food and donations. The pantry itself is run by Mid-County United Ministries, which provides emergency assistance to families in crisis in the county.
