Ryan transfers $3.4 million to NRCC in January

House Speaker Paul Ryan tranferred more than $3.4 million to the House campaign arm in January, a number his political team said underscores his popularly after more than a year as the top Republican in the GOP-led House.

The money consists of $3.295 million from Team Ryan and $105,000 from Ryan’s political action committee, Prosperity Action PAC. The Wisconsin Republican took in another $200,000 from fundraising emails for the GOP.

Campaign team officials said Ryan raised 67 percent more on the digital front for House GOP lawmakers, and brought in $3.3 million from emails sent by Ryan on behalf of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Republicans lost six seats in the 2016 election, a much smaller number than the double digit predictions put forward by many pollsters.

Ryan was elected speaker on Oct. 29, 2015 after his predecessor John Boehner abruptly announced his resignation and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., suddenly dropped out of the running.

“When Paul Ryan became Speaker of the House 14 months ago his D.C. political operation consisted of one person,” an aide on his political team said. “We built a political operation based on the conservative, pro-growth vision Paul Ryan and his colleagues hoped to finally put into action with unified Republican government. Despite all the challenges of 2016 this strategy worked.”
