MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) — The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association has named Curtis Viebranz (VEE’-branz) as president and chief executive officer of George Washington’s historic estate.
Viebranz, who starts next week, succeeds James Rees, who retired in June after an 18-year tenure that dramatically increased fundraising and launched a new visitor center and a presidential library that will open next year.
The 59-year-old Viebranz has a media and advertising background that includes a stint as president of HBO International. Most recently he served as chairman of Korrelate, Inc., a firm that analyzes web advertising.
The estate announced Viebranz’s hiring on Tuesday.
Mount Vernon draws roughly 1 million visitors a year.
