Mark Warner: It’s ‘more than bizarre’ Trump hasn’t condemned Putin

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., said Sunday “it is more than bizarre” that President Trump hasn’t condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin since he became president.

Warner’s comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday came a few days after Trump congratulated Putin for his election win despite pleas from his advisers not to do so. Trump did not bring up Russia’s poisoning of a British agent with Putin, or concerns about electoral fraud in the 2016 election.

“There is something just strange about this,” Warner said. “That is the reason why [Robert] Mueller’s investigation [into 2016 Russian election interference] has to continue and our investigation has to continue.”

Warner was referring to the Senate Intelligence Committee’s probe of 2016 election interference. Warner serves as the top Democrat on the committee.

Warner also criticized Trump’s penchant for chaos after President Trump replaced his secretary of state nearly two weeks ago and his national security adviser earlier this week.

“With this president I think he thrives on chaos,” Warner said. “Maybe it is a way to run a reality TV show, but it is not the way to run the greatest country in the world.”
