The Club for Growth thinks North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers started out as a ‘Tea Party conservative’ but has since become a ‘big-government liberal.’
The club is an influential conservative nonprofit organization that focuses on economic issues. It previously released an ad opposing Ellmers in February, casting the congresswoman as “way too liberal for North Carolina.”
“Renee Ellmers first ran as a Tea Party conservative, but has become an establishment liberal in Washington,” said David McIntosh, Club for Growth Action president, in a statement.
“Ellmers is clearly betraying the conservative values of her constituents. Just last year, she voted for a trillion-dollar omnibus bill that broke spending caps Congress had imposed on itself, and she actively supports the corrupt cronyism of the Export-Import Bank. Since so many of the voters in NC-02 are new to the district, CFG Action wants to be sure they know that Renee Ellmers is a big-government liberal.”
Ellmers faces multiple primary opponents, due in part to court-ordered redistricting. Rep. George Holding and obstetrician Greg Brannon are her opponents.
