WATCH: Gov DeSantis slams media spin and defends bill on sexuality taught to children

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hit back at the media for their spin on the nicknamed “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Rather, he said the legislation from the Florida Legislature dictates that “no sexual instruction” is given to students in pre-K through third grade.

“When you actually look at the bill, and it says ‘no sexual instruction in grades pre-k through three,'” DeSantis said Friday. “How many parents want their kindergartners to have transgenderism or something injected into classroom instruction?”

DeSantis appeared at the press conference to announce global shipping company Sea-Lead Shipping was moving its operations to Jacksonville. A reporter asked the governor about the bill, which he said he supports.

FLORIDA GOP ADVANCES BILL REGULATING CLASSROOM DISCUSSION OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION

“I think those are very young kids. I think the Legislature is basically trying to give parents assurance that they’re gonna be able to go, and this stuff isn’t going to be there,” DeSantis said. “But there’s nothing in the bill that says anything about ‘you can’t say.'”

The Florida governor accused the media of creating a “massive gulf” between its reports and the bill’s content. He even went so far as to say some could be “intentionally just trying to create a political narrative and [they] know it’s not true.”
