Task force to consolidate P.G. government services proposed

A resolution creating a taskforce to review spending in Prince George’s County and find ways to consolidate government services was introduced Tuesday.

The legislation proposed by County Council Chairwoman Ingrid Turner, D-Bowie, calls for identifying services that both the county and the school system is performing that could be consolidated to cut costs.

The taskforce would be made up of 13 members, according to a draft of the legislation. It now goes to the Health, Education and Human Services committee.

The county is facing a $77 million budget deficit for fiscal 2012. The school board is facing a $155 million deficit.
