A man died after a multiple-vehicle crash Tuesday in Fairfax County, police said.
About 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, 71-year-old Donald S. Mitchell, of Lorton, was driving a 1999 Honda CRV north on Lorton Road under Interstate 95 when the vehicle struck the back of a 2010 Buick Lacrosse.
The Honda then sideswiped a 2008 Smart Car, crossed the median as it approached the exit ramp from I-95 south and struck a 1994 Mack 600 Dump Truck that was southbound on Lorton Road, officials said. Mitchell’s vehicle came to rest near a utility pole at the southwest corner of the intersection.
Mitchell was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. Detectives are investigating whether Mitchell suffered a medical emergency, and the medical examiner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death.
