The Texas Court of Appeals denied Alex Jones and his attorneys an appeal on a lawsuit alleging that Infowars broadcast defamatory comments about Sandy Hook families, and also ordered the website to “pay all costs” owed.
The lawsuit was first brought by Neil Heslin, the father of Jesse Lewis, 6, who was one of the 20 children and six adults who were killed at the elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012. Heslin alleged that he and other parents have received threats and harassment from Jones’ followers after the personality figure called it a hoax and alleged that the parents were “crisis actors.”
Jones’ lawyers filed this appeal after Heslin presented the court with a motion of contempt in the case after it became known that Infowars was not planning on complying with the court-ordered discovery.
“We agree with Heslin that the district court has not yet ruled on Appellants’ motion to dismiss, nor has the motion been overruled by operation of law,” Justice Gisela Triana wrote in her ruling, according to Raw Story. “Accordingly, we dismiss the appeal for lack of jurisdiction.”
