State releases newest employment figures

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation announced the February seasonally adjust unemployment numbers for the state, with figures remaining unchanged from January at the 3.8 percent.

Maryland falls substantially below the national average, 4.5 percent, which dropped by .1 percent from January’s figure.

“In Maryland the survey of business establishments shows an increase of 2,700 jobs in February and the continued growth is a good sign,” DLLR Secretary Thomas E. Perez said in a statement.

Currently in Maryland, there are 2,899,520 employed people. For the Baltimore region, Howard County had the lowest nonseasonally adjusted unemployment rate at 2.9 percent. As for the city, the department reported a slight decrease in the unemployment rate, going down from 6.9 percent in January to 6.5 percent in February. Over the past year, Maryland has seen its employment rise by 26,570 people.
