Despite Donald Trump’s threat to invite Gennifer Flowers, a former mistress of Bill Clinton’s, to the first presidential debate, his running mate now says she will not be attending.
“Gennifer Flowers will not be attending the debate tomorrow night,” Pence told Fox News’ Chris Wallace during an interview Sunday morning.
Trump had tweeted about inviting Flowers to the debate on Saturday, after learning that billionaire Mark Cuban, a steadfast critic of Trump, will be seated in the front row at the debate at the invitation of Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
Pence said the purpose of the tweet was to mock “the fact that Hillary Clinton is trying to distract attention away from this moment in our national life when the American people are going to see a strong contrast between the broad-shouldered leadership of Donald Trump … and a candidate who simply offers a third Obama term.”
“Hillary Clinton apparently thinks this is an episode of ‘Shark Tank,'” he added, referring to the popular TV program starring Cuban and several other billionaire investors.
The first debate will take place in Hempstead, N.Y. on Monday and is expected to draw as many as 100 million viewers.
