Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., will participate in a Johns Hopkins forum about stem cell research and the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007, which the Senate will begin debating next week.
The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act would expand federally funded stem cell research, give scientists access to stem cell lines that are off-limits to federal funding, and establish a national framework of medical and bioethical guidelines. The bill would allow creation of new human embryonic stem cell lines derived from leftover embryos created by in-vitro fertilization.
The forum will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Weinberg Building Auditorium, 401 North Broadway in Baltimore.
