Pelosi: Even Trump knows he shouldn’t be president

PHILADELPHIA — House Minority Leader California Rep. Nancy Pelosi told a room full of Democrats and reporters that Donald Trump’s repeated political gaffes should be likened to cries for help.

“Everyday Donald Trump tells us: Save me from myself, I shouldn’t be president of the United States,” Pelosi said at a “Women in Power” panel hosted by the Washington Post on Wednesday afternoon.

“Donald Trump is the gift that keeps on giving,” she added. “Everyday he demonstrates that he shouldn’t be president. Nobody knows better than Donald Trump that he shouldn’t be president.”

The California lawmaker, who is a top Clinton surrogate, spent the majority of her time talking about the importance of having women in politics. The long serving congresswoman, who is one of the top fundraisers in the Democratic Party, explained that the more women run for elected office, the more America will succeed.

Looking forward to November, Pelosi said that she is confident about Democratic victories up and down the ballot, although “you never know in the course of a campaign what other interventions will occur.”

“But I do think if the election were today I think we’d have the capacity to do very well,” she said. “We’d win the Congress, win the Senate and definitely win the White House.”
