President Trump said Rudy Giuliani is still his personal lawyer despite previously appearing to distance himself from the former New York City mayor.
Speaking with Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro on Saturday night, Trump was asked if Giuliani remains his lawyer after the president indicated the day before that he wasn’t sure.
“Yes, and he’s a great gentleman,” he told Pirro. “He was a great mayor, one of the greatest, maybe the greatest mayor in the history of New York.”
The president then addressed reports that Giuliani is under federal investigation for his work in Ukraine, including his attempts to gather evidence of corruption by former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
“I know nothing about him being under investigation. Somebody said — I heard a report today — I can’t imagine it.” Trump said. “They should be looking at really bad people doing really bad things to our country. So, no, I stand behind Rudy Giuliani absolutely.”
“Is he [@RudyGiuliani] your attorney?” @JudgeJeanine asked.
“Yes, and he is a great gentleman, he was a great mayor, one of the greatest maybe the greatest mayor in the history of New York,” @realDonaldTrump said. pic.twitter.com/2vQM7YDnnb

News broke Friday that prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating whether Giuliani broke lobbying laws with his dealings with Ukraine. The investigation is linked to the arrests of two of Giuliani’s clients, who were helping him dig up dirt on the Bidens, on campaign finance-related charges.
On Saturday, Trump defended Giuliani amid the reports, while Giuliani claimed to be unaware that he is being investigated.
