North Korea rejects Trump’s diplomacy ‘propaganda’

Donald Trump said last week he’d be willing to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to try to deflate the nation’s nuclear ambitions peacefully. On Monday, the message from the Hermit Kingdom to the casino magnate and presumptive GOP nominee was: No deal.

So Se Pyong, North Korean ambassador the United Nations, left some wiggle room for later by saying “it is up to the decision of my Supreme Leader whether he decides to meet or not.” Having got that out of the way, the diplomat said frankly that Trump’s “idea or talk is nonsense.”

“It is for utilization of the presidential election, that is all, a kind of propaganda or advertisement. This is useless, just a gesture for the presidential election. There is no meaning, no sincerity,” So told Reuters in Geneva.

The ambassador said this after returning from North Korea’s first ruling party congress in 36 years, where the communist ruler consolidated his power even further by being named chairman of the Workers Party. He secured the promotion on the heels of several nuclear tests in defiance of western condemnation and sanctions.
