S.E. Cupp to Melania Trump: Don’t be like Hillary, leave your cheating husband

HLN television host S.E. Cupp said Tuesday first lady Melania Trump should leave President Trump following allegations of him cheating on her with a former porn star, a former Playboy model, “and who knows who else.”

Cupp said Melania should do what the former first lady and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton could not when it was confirmed that her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had cheated on her.

“Melania should do for this generation of girls what Hillary did not do for mine, and leave her jerk of a husband,” Cupp said in an op-ed in New York Daily News.

Although the alleged extramarital affairs of now-President Trump are embarrassing for the country, Cupp says it is even more humiliating for Melania.

The political commentator said if Clinton would have left her husband when the validity of his affair came to light, she could have actually lived up to the ideal of who she was trying to be on the 2016 campaign trail.

“Maybe then she would have been the person on the campaign trail that her closest friends say she was and is in real life — warm, guileless, accountable,” Cupp wrote. “Instead, perhaps thanks to years of overcompensating for her uneasy role as feminist icon, her public persona was steely, aloof and defensive.”

If Melania were to leave Donald, Cupp says she would be doing for this generation of young women what Hillary could not.

“Melania Trump may not have a political career to consider. But as First Lady she is an inherently important figure in American politics. And women are watching,” Cupp said.
