What: According to analysis by the Associated Press (AP), $242 million infederalcontractshasbeenawardedunderthestimulus for repairs and maintenance — without competitive bidding.

Why it’s an outrage: The AP analysis showed that the Pentagon saves more than three times as much money when companies compete.The work that was competitively bid saved $34 million, with contract costs coming in about 11 percent less than budget estimates.
