WHO: Department of Transportation
WHAT: The department is giving away four new charter buses–at $500,000 a piece–to two private New Hampshire bus companies, Boston Express and C&J Trailways. The buses will shuttle New Hampshire commuters out of the state to nearby Boston.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Funded by the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the new buses will create just four to five new jobs. And the two private bus companies are hardly struggling, either. Boston Express’ parent company just spent $5.5 million on new buses.
