House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi attempted to energize progressives on Tuesday by mentioning the possibility of Democrats having subpoena power over the Trump administration if her party wins back the House in 2018.
“The power of subpoena makes all the difference in the world and the majority owns the power of subpoena,” the California Democrat said at a Center for American Progress conference. “And when you have an incumbent in the White House of a particular party, and the Congress owns the power of subpoena, it deters.”
Pelosi is one of a number of congressional Democrats, including some who have been floated as possible presidential candidates in 2020, speaking at the liberal group’s “2017 Ideas Conference” on Tuesday.
