Trump triples down on war of words with CNN

President Trump doubled and tripled down on calling CNN “fake news” by sharing a “FNN” logo on Instagram and multiple videos critical of the network as his war on CNN escalated in the wake of an embarrassing retraction Wednesday.

The logo features “FNN” in the CNN font, with the words “Fake News Network” written below it.

This comes during yet another recent stretch that has seen Trump and his administration publicly criticize CNN and other mainstream news outlets as “fake news.” Additionally, deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders referred to CNN as a “disgrace to journalism” during the daily press briefing on June 27.

Trump went a couple steps further on Wednesday, posting videos filmed in a sting operation by Project Veritas that show a CNN medical producer and contributor Van Jones criticizing the network’s coverage of Russia meddling in the 2016 election

CNN has received particular criticism from the White House after it retracted a story about a Trump ally’s alleged ties to Russia due to insufficient sourcing that broke with its editorial process. As a result, three journalists who worked on the story resigned from CNN.
