President Trump said he is crafting a middle-class tax cut that will be released soon and would go into effect if he’s reelected and Republicans control Congress.
“We’re talking a fairly substantial … middle-class tax cut that’ll be subject to taking back the House and obviously keeping the Senate and keeping the White House,” Trump told the Wall Street Journal during an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He did not give any details about the measure but said the administration would unveil it in 90 days.
Trump first said he’s planning legislation for a middle-income tax cut in September last year.
“We’re going to be doing a very major middle-income tax cut, mostly devoted to middle income, who have really been big beneficiaries of the tax cut we did,” Trump said at an event in November.
The president also said before the 2018 midterm elections that he would work toward a middle-class tax cut in an effort to prop up congressional Republicans, but the GOP lost the House.
