Pat Brown quit his job when he learned his band, Sing It Loud, had been signed to Epitaph Records.
“I was so stoked,” the rhythm guitarist/lead vocalist said. “I stopped going to work. I was lifeguarding at a YMCA. I wasn?t really enjoying it anyway.”
The Minneapolis-based pop-rockers also include Kieren Smith on lead guitar, Nate Flynn on bass, Ben Peterson on keys and Dane Schmidt on drums.
The band formed in June, played its first show July 14, then was signed to Epitaph in little more than a month. An impressive feat in today?s music industry.
“I think what definitely helped was that Keiren and I had previously been in touring bands, and we made a lotof mistakes in the past,” Brown said. “When Sing It Loud started, we had a chance to start fresh and do things the right way.”
In early 2008, the band had the opportunity to work in the studio with Josh Cain, the lead guitarist for Motion City Soundtrack. “He?s has been like a mentor and older brother to all of us, and doing our record with him was the most amazing thing any of us have ever experienced,” Smith said.
The band?s full-length debut album won?t be released until early fall, but music fans can get their hands on its preview EP, available for digital download and at upcoming shows.
“There are three songs off the EP that will definitely be on the [debut album],” Brown said. “It?s all mixed more.”
Sing It Loud is currently on tour with The Cab and We The Kings ? the band stops by the Ottobar on Wednesday ? and is planning tours with Hit The Lights and The Spill Canvas over the next few months.
“I think all of us have the ultimate goal that this is something we want to do that will support us,” Brown said. “We don?t want to be that band that has one song and then drops off the face of the planet.”
