It’s on: Ryan, Trump to meet Thursday

The office of House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that the Wisconsin lawmaker will meet with Donald Trump next Thursday to “begin a discussion” about party principles.

There will be two meetings. The first will include Ryan, other GOP leaders and Trump. Trump and Ryan will hold a second meeting with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who has called for everyone to rally around Trump.

The meeting announcement comes a day after Ryan said he was not ready yet to endorse Trump.

“Having both said we need to unify the party, Speaker Ryan has invited Donald Trump to meet with members of the House Republican leadership in Washington on Thursday morning to begin a discussion about the kind of Republican principles and ideas that can win the support of the American people this November,” a statement from Ryan’s office said. “The Speaker and Mr. Trump will also meet separately, along with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.”

“I’ve invited @realDonaldTrump for a meeting with GOP leaders next week, and I look forward to the discussion,” Ryan said on Twitter.
