Kristol: Ivanka and Jared behind firing of key Preibus ally, revealing their rising power

Did Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner get a key White House staffer fired—over the objections of Chief of Staff Reince Preibus? The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol says “yes.”

In a discussion of Ivanka joining the Trump administration as an advisor to the President (and her father) on this week’s episode of The Right Question, Kristol reported:

“One thing that happened this week that shows the power of Ivanka and Jared is the firing of Katie Walsh. She was Preibus’s Deputy Chief of Staff, worked for him at the RNC, was good at her job, had good relationships with GOP donors and operatives. And she was fired for leaking.”

“It’s amazing,” Kristol said. “Think of it: A deputy chief of staff fired out from under chief of staff. He didn’t want to fire her. Who has the clout to do that? I’ve done some calling around and I believe it’s Jared and Ivanka,” Kristol reported.

“They were upset by some articles that they thought had her fingerprints on them…That shows how powerful they are and raises questions on how this White House is going to operate.”
