Trump on comparisons to Nixon: ‘He left. I don’t leave’

President Trump said there’s a difference between himself and former President Richard Nixon: the latter stepped down and Trump has no intention of quitting.

“He left. I don’t leave,” Trump told reporters Monday from the South Lawn.

The comments came the same day John Dean, the former Nixon White House counsel, testified before the House Judiciary Committee during a hearing on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Dean said he saw “remarkable parallels” between Nixon’s conduct and Trump’s actions.

Dean, who organized the cover-up of the Watergate burglary, played a key role in handing over evidence that led to Nixon’s resignation. The former president resigned before he could be impeached.

Trump said he has no plans of resigning amid calls for his impeachment.

“You can’t impeach somebody when there’s never been anything done wrong. We have no collusion. We have no anything. There’s no obstruction, there’s no collusion, there’s no anything,” Trump said. “When you look at past impeachments, whether it was President Clinton or — I guess President Nixon never got there.”

“There’s a big difference. I don’t leave,” Trump added.
