The super PAC aligned with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Wednesday escalated its feud with Steve Bannon, asking a Republican candidate endorsed by the nationalist firebrand if he is willing to accept the support of an individual accused of anti-Semitism.
Referencing a New York Daily News article from 2016, when Bannon served as the CEO of the Trump campaign, that reported on allegations he had a history of making anti-Semitic comments, Senate Leadership Fund asked Danny Tarkanian in a tweet if he agrees with Bannon’s opinion of Jews. Tarkanian is challenging Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., in the 2018 GOP primary, and recently tweeted out his pledge to oppose McConnell as majority leader.
Bannon, President Trump’s former chief strategist, is raising resources and recruiting candidates to challenge incumbent Republicans in 2018 and elect senators who pledge to oust McConnell. Now, SLF is striking back, signaling that it won’t shrink from what Bannon, the Breitbart News chairman, usually refers to as “war.”
Bannon has vehemently denied the accusations made by his ex-wife and charges of anti-Semitism. His spokesman said McConnell and his allies must be desperate to approve such an attack.
“It’s embarrassing to watch Mitch McConnell’s henchmen levy the very same desperate and false attacks used by Hillary Clinton in 2016. Maybe Mitch should ask Hillary how that worked out for her,” said Andy Surabian, an adviser to Bannon during his tenure in the White House.
