Former President George H.W. Bush is expected to be released from the hospital by the end of the week, a spokesperson for the 41st president said Tuesday.
Bush, 92, has recovered from pneumonia but is still dealing with the lingering effects of chronic bronchitis. The former president was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital for a persistent cough, that was later diagnosed as mild pneumonia April 14.
“We continue to monitor his cough and breathing, and expect to discharge him by the end of the week. Once President Bush is home, we will continue aggressive respiratory treatments to help minimize the effects of the chronic bronchitis,” Bush spokesperson Jim McGrath said.
An earlier bout with pneumonia caused Bush to spend nearly two weeks at Houston Methodist’s intensive care unit in January.
