Doug Jones: ‘I’m absolutely’ willing to work with Trump

Doug Jones, the Democrat who won Alabama’s special election for the Senate earlier this week, said Thursday he is willing to work with President Trump and support GOP policies if they benefit his constituents.

“If the president has things on his agenda that I think are good for the people of Alabama, then I’m absolutely going to work there with him,” Jones said on NBC.

Jones also declined to say whether he thinks Republicans should wait for him to be seated before they pass tax reform, and said he would just watch how that issue evolves in the next few weeks. The Senate is expected to pass the final bill next week, without him in office.

The election was called Tuesday night, but Republican Roy Moore has yet to concede the race to Jones.

“I understand the frustration a little bit. I mean, it is a close race, but I would say it’s time to move on,” Jones added. “I think he would do well to go ahead, get this behind us.”

Jones beat Moore by more than 0.5 of a percentage point, which is the threshold for an automatic recount.
