Police identify 17-year-old boy who drowned

Baltimore County police identified a 17-year-old boy who drowned in the Loch Raven Reservoir Sunday night as Keith Alan Cannon.

Cannon, of the 1700 block of Judy Way in Edgewood, and a companion were on a small island known as “The Pines” off Morgan Mill Road and were attempting to come back to shore, said fire department spokesman Jim Korn. The pair used an underwater ledge to wade out to the island and Cannon might have misstepped and fallen off the ledge while returning, Korn said.

Cannon?s body was found around 3:10 p.m., about one hour after he fell, according to Korn, in waters about 7 feet deep. Korn called the death an accident.

Cannon was five days shy of his 18th birthday. Police said his companion was not able to help him. Cannon?s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Swimming in any of the county?s three reservoirs is illegal. An average of eight to 10 people drown every year in Baltimore County, according to officials.
