Biden, Boehner, share an award at Notre Dame

Vice President Joe Biden and former House Speaker John Boehner were jointly presented with an award Sunday during the commencement ceremony at Notre Dame University.

Biden, who delivered the commencement address, and Boehner were given the Laetare Medal, which is bestowed on prominent Catholics, according to the South Bend Tribune.

Biden called the medal “the most meaningful award I’ve ever received in my life.”

Biden’s remarks included calls for “mutual respect in public life” and for students to find “common ground” on issues. “I’ve read some accounts about how John and I are old school. We treat each other with respect,” Biden said.

The vice president received “a partial standing ovation” according to the newspaper.
