Melania and Barron Trump may not move to the White House in January

President-elect Trump’s wife, Melania, and 10-year-old son, Barron, may not move into the White House after the inauguration in January, a spokesman for the Trump transition team seemed to suggest on Sunday.

Transition communications director Jason Miller told reporters during a conference call that there is “obviously a sensitivity” in pulling Barron out of his school in New York City in the middle of the academic year.

“Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign,” a source close to the transition team told the New York Post on Sunday. The source said the future first lady is “really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum” for her son.

There is a possibility that Melania and Barron will remain in New York until the school year has ended and then relocate to Washington, but the Trump family has yet to offer any specifics about their plans.

Should Trump’s wife and youngest son forego an immediate move to the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, local law enforcement will be forced to maintain a security presence at Trump Tower — a requirement that has already created a headache for Secret Service and the New York Police Department.

“That building is going to become the White House of New York,” security consultant Jim Reese told the Post. “The Secret Service is going to have to keep that whole area cordoned off so that some wacko can’t get close and detonate a car bomb.”

Melania and Barron must also be accompanied at all times by a handful of Secret Service agents, who will travel with Barron to and from school.
