Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has requested a classified briefing for all senators on the leaked classified U.S. documents on the war in Ukraine, according to a spokesperson.
A trove of Pentagon documents that were leaked online shows just how deeply the United States has penetrated Russia’s security and intelligence services, allowing military officials to warn Ukraine about planned attacks amid the Kremlin’s invasion. The leak is one of the largest involving alleged classified U.S. military documents in a decade. A Pentagon team is investigating and looking into the impact of the disclosure, spokesman Chris Meagher told reporters on Monday.
PENTAGON IN FULL DAMAGE CONTROL MODE AS EXTENT OF INTELLIGENCE LEAK UNKNOWN
The leak involves more than 50, perhaps as many as 100, photographs of folded and wrinkled briefing slides from February and March, including some marked “Top Secret,” “SI-gamma,” for “signals intelligence,” and “NOFORN” for “no foreign nationals.”
Lawmakers have expressed concerns about the scope of the leak and the sensitivity of the information, but many remain uninformed about what exactly played out. House and Senate intelligence leaders are demanding answers from the Biden administration. They were set to receive a briefing on Monday.
