Trump says he’ll challenge Elizabeth Warren to take DNA test to prove Native American heritage in 2020

President Trump again mocked Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., for claiming she is of Native American descent, calling her “Pocahontas” and vowing to offer her a $1 million charitable donation to undergo genetic testing to prove her ancestry.

“’Pocahontas,’ they always want me to apologize for saying it,” Trump said during a rally in Great Falls, Mont. “Pocahontas, I apologize to you. To you, I apologize. To the fake Pocahontas, I won’t apologize.”

Trump said that if Warren is the Democratic presidential nominee in 2020, he would toss her a DNA kit, such as those offered by 23andMe, during a debate and challenge her to take it.

But the president said the kit has to be tossed “gently because we’re in the MeToo generation.”

“We will very gently take that kit and slowly toss it hoping it didn’t hit her and injure her arm even though it weighs probably two ounces,” Trump said. “We will say, ‘I will give $1 million to your favorite charity paid for by Trump if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian.’”

“Let’s see what she does, right? I have a feeling she will say no. But we will hold that for the debates,” he continued.

Warren, a potential 2020 challenger to Trump, has said her mother’s family is Cherokee, but reports state there has been no conclusive proof of her Native American ancestry. The Democratic senator’s detractors have accused Warren of using her heritage to advance her academic career.

Trump said Warren believes she is Native American because “her mother said she has high cheekbones.”
