Battleground state update: Biden inches further ahead in Georgia and Pennsylvania

Joe Biden’s lead over President Trump continues to widen in Pennsylvania. By noon on Monday, the presumptive president-elect had earned 3,362,024 votes compared to 3,316,313 for Trump. On Sunday, Biden was at 3,355,387 votes while Trump had 3,314,164 votes, meaning the former vice president’s lead grew by about 7,500 votes. Biden has yet to cross 50% support in the state, with 49.8% of the vote. In 2016, Trump won Pennsylvania with 48.18% of the vote.

In Georgia, Biden led Trump by about 10,486 votes Monday, according to the secretary of state’s office, up from Sunday night’s 10,353 votes. There were nearly 5 million votes cast in the presidential race in Georgia. Gwinnett County met Monday to review 965 provisional ballots. The county approved 699 additional votes: 407 for Biden, 274 for Trump, and 18 for Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen. Georgia has 16 electoral votes up for grabs.

In Michigan at midday, Biden was ahead of Trump by 146,123 votes, with 50.6% of the vote compared to Trump’s 47.9%. In Wisconsin, where a recount is planned, Biden leads by 20,539 votes, with 49.3% of the tally compared to 48.8% for Trump.

Biden leads in Nevada by just over 36,000 votes, with 670,344 votes to Trump’s 634,158, and he was ahead in Arizona by just under 17,000 votes, ahead by 0.6 percentage points, 49.5% to 48.9%. In both states, thousands of votes remain to be counted.
