Bill Cassidy: Trump uses ‘hyperbole’ which some interpret as lies

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said Thursday that President Trump uses hyperbole in his public statements, which many hear as a lie.

Cassidy was challenged by MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski, who asked if Trump has “ever lied.”

“This president speaks in hyperbole,” he said. “And hyperbole is interpreted by some as lies, and by the president it’s interpreted as just his exaggeration.”

Cassidy used Trump’s tendency to say something is the “most beautiful in the world.”

“Well, what’s the most beautiful in the world?” Cassidy asked. “That’s in the eye of the beholder. So the president has a manner of speaking which is easily taken as a lie, and the president will refute that.”

“I frankly don’t focus that, Mika,” he added. “I kind of look at the issue before us, what is the core, and if I get distracted by, well, is the hyperbole a lie or is it not a lie.”

Cassidy’s answer infuriated Brzezinski, who quickly ended the interview.

“We got it, we got it. Sen. Bill Cassidy, I understand completely,” she said. “Thank you very much.”
