Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday laughed off Donald Trump’s claim that he’s the “law and order candidate” in the race this year.
When asked about Trump’s claim, Biden started to laugh before “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos could even finish the question.
“Donald Trump is out saying he’s the law and order candidate. He’s going to make America safe again,” Stephanopoulos said as Biden chuckled in the background. “Is that your response? To laugh?”
“Well, I’d rather not make this story about Donald Trump, so I’m going to restrain myself,” Biden responded. “But the truth of the matter is that one of the problems we’ve had is getting funding for law enforcement from his party, and maybe he’ll come forward and be supportive … of community policing.”
Biden also pushed back against any idea that he could remain in office as Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential selection. The former secretary of state is thought to be considering the likes of Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Tim Kaine, Cory Booker and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.
“No, no. I’m not interested in re-upping for VP,” Biden said. “I’ll do anything I can to help her win, and I think she’s going to win. But I have been proud to serve for eight years as vice president and I think that’s enough.”
