Protesters surround second Minneapolis police precinct

A day after protesters set the Minneapolis Police Department’s 3rd Precinct ablaze, hundreds marched toward the 5th Precinct hours after a state-enforced curfew went unheeded.

Reports Friday night indicated police were still inside the station and that some protesters were walking around the precinct with gasoline in hand. Fires were also reported at a gas station across the street from the police station as looting and rioting continues across Minneapolis.

“Protestors are surrounding the 5th Precinct (police station) in Minneapolis,” Daily Caller contributor Kyle Hooten tweeted. “Seem to be attempting to source gassoline [sic]. Cops authorized rubber bullets to for anyone ‘affecting the integrity of the fence.’”

Fires and looting around the 5th Precinct and elsewhere were also reported.

Protesters in major cities across the country are demonstrating after 46-year-old George Floyd died in the custody of Minneapolis police on Monday. Floyd, a black man, died after white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin restrained him by placing his knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

Chauvin and three other officers involved in Floyd’s detainment were fired on Tuesday. Chauvin was taken into custody on Friday and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
