The married man wanted in the shooting of his girlfriend at a Parkville shopping center ? killing her and their unborn child ? surrendered to authorities at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Baltimore County police said.
David Lee Miller, 24, of Parkville, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Elizabeth Walters, 24, of Baltimore, who was seven months pregnant.
He also was charged with first-degree attempted murder in the shooting of Walters? 24-year-old companion, who is expected to survive.
Miller was not charged with the death of the unborn child, but Baltimore County State?s Attorney Scott Shellenberger said if the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner rules that the fetus was “viable,” he could seek charges under a 2005 law.
Chief Medical Examiner David Fowler said his office generally determines viability based on whether the fetus is 28 weeks old and 500 grams in weight.
Walters and her companion were shot at about 10:20 a.m. Monday. The two women were sitting in a gray Dodge Stratus in the parking lot of the Parkway Crossing Shopping Center on Cleanleigh Road.
The shooter fled the scene, but before Walters? companion was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, she told police Miller was the gunman.
Detectives also found several cell phone calls made between Miller and Walters about 45 minutes before the shooting.
Walter?s death marked the 15th homicide recorded in Baltimore County this year. With Miller?s arrest, police have closed 10 of those cases.
