Trump to address the nation regarding Florida school shooting, orders flags to be flown at half-staff

President Donald Trump will be speaking to the nation Thursday at 11 a.m. regarding the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., according to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

The president will be addressing Wednesday’s shooting that took the lives of 17 individuals.

The remarks will come less than 24 hours after the 19-year-old former student Nikolas Cruz is suspected of opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14.

The White House also issued a proclamation Thursday from President Trump declaring all American flags on public grounds, military posts, naval vessels, U.S. embassies, and government buildings should be flown at half-staff until sunset Feb. 19.

“Our Nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones in the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida,” Trump stated in his proclamation. “As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible act of violence perpetrated on February 14, 2018, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff.”
