Rashida Tlaib blasts critics of critical race theory, says opposition is ‘rooted in racism’

Rep. Rashida Tlaib addressed critics of the controversial critical race theory by claiming opposition to the teachings is “rooted in racism.”

“Opposition to critical race theory is obviously rooted in racism and has just become the newest dog whistle for racists,” the Michigan Democrat tweeted Thursday.

Attached to Tlaib’s tweet was a video of Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley telling Congress that it was “offensive” to label the military as being “woke.”

Earlier this week, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael Gilday sparred with Republican Sen. Tom Cotton over the decision to place a book advocating critical race theory on the recommended reading list for sailors. During the exchange, Gilday declined to answer a question from Cotton as to whether or not capitalism is “racist,” which is one claim made in the book.

Critical race theory, which teaches that America is fundamentally racist and encourages people to view every person and interaction through the prism of race, has become a hot-button issue across the country, including in several school districts where parents have pushed back against the curriculum being taught to their children.

Major corporations have been accused of pushing critical race theory as well. The insurance company Cigna, which the Washington Examiner exclusively reported on in March, was telling employees not to hire white men and teaching them to denounce their “white privilege.”
