Locals warned of investment scam involving Athena Financial Solutions

The Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland is issuing a scam alert regarding Baltimore-based Athena Financial Solutions.

Athena promises loans to consumers with poor or no credit after an initial fee. Consumers have filed numerous complaints with the BBB about no further contact from the company following the initial payment.

Despite giving an address at 2701 North Charles St. in Baltimore City, businesses that have offices in that same building told the BBB that Athena Financial is not a tenant. Mail is returned by the post office, and the toll-free number the company gives out is believed to originate in Canada.

“While the chance of recovering the loan application of payment fee is minimal, victims can provide information that will help BBB?s warn other consumers and assist the government in tracking these scams,” Angie Barnett, president and chief executive officer of the BBB of Greater Maryland, said in a release.
