Nigel Farage, one of the key figures who successfully pushed the Brexit referendum for Britain to leave the European Union, jokingly proposed on Wednesday that Sweden could be next with “Sexit.”
“I think there will be big pressure for a referendum in Denmark, so we could get Dexit. There’s a chance of a referendum in the Netherlands, so we could get Nexit. And who knows, if we go for Sweden, it could be Sexit. Couldn’t it?” said the member of the British Parliament with a chuckle during an appearance at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Wednesday.
Farage, who resigned as leader of the U.K. Independence Party because he felt he had accomplished his singular mission after the British people voted to leave the European Union, said his “post-Brexit” intention will be to help other countries do the same.
“I’m now going to be a bit freer, and I am going to travel around Europe and I’m going go and join, and help, and work
with other independence movements because I don’t just think the EU was bad for Britain,” he said. “I think it’s bad for the whole European continent.”
