The FBI agent involved in the car wreck that killed a teenager has been identified as 37-year-old Adrian N. Johnson.

FBI spokeswoman Lindsay Godwin said Johnson had been with the agency for six years and was recently transferred from the Newark, N.J. office to D.C. to provide protection for the FBI director or the U.S. attorney general.

He had not net begun his new job and was still in training, Godwin said. Prince George’s County police said Johnson appears to be at fault in a two-car accident that killed 18-year-old Lawrence Garner Jr. in Brandywine on Monday night.

A police spokesman said alcohol and speeding appear to be factors. Johnson, who was driving his personal vehicle and not an FBI car, has not been charged, but the case will be forwarded to the state’s attorney’s office.

Police said Johnson could face vehicular manslaughter charges at the completion of the accident investigation, which could take several months.

“It’s a tragedy and our hearts go out to the families of everyone involved because it’s been terrible,” Godwin said.
