Two killed and 14 injured in shooting after Texas A&M homecoming party

At least 14 people were injured and two died following a shooting at an off-campus homecoming party in Greenville, Texas.

The shooting took place around midnight near the campus of Texas A&M-Commerce following the university’s homecoming football game.

Police had arrived at the party prior to the shooting on reports of illegal parking. Around 15 minutes after authorities arrived, the gunman opened fire.

When the shooting started, officers could not tell if it was coming from inside the home or outside the property. They soon found the two deceased victims in the home and tended to other victims.

Three of the injured victims were transported 50 miles to Medical City Plano to receive care for critical injuries, according to the medical center’s spokesperson. In total, 12 of the victims suffered gunshot wounds. Others were injured in the chaos following the shooting.

Chief Deputy Buddy Oxford of the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office claimed as many as 750 students were in attendance at the party, which was not a school-sanctioned event.

The gunman was still at large. In a press conference Sunday morning, Oxford said the department still did not have a description of the gunman because of several mixed reports from the scene.

“It appalls me that as many folks that were there have not been able to give us a better description of the shooter,” Oxford said, later adding, “We haven’t been able to get much cooperation.”

Oxford also noted that the gunman used a handgun in this shooting.

The department is working with the FBI as the investigation continues.
