“A Lovely Love Story” is just that ? lovely.
In a recently released fable, British poet Giles Andreae introduces U.S. audiences to his alter ego and pseudonym Edward Monkton.
Monkton?s simple tale starts when a girl dinosaur finds her future mate trapped inside a block of ice where he is cold yet content. After she frees him from his icy cage with kind words, the pair enjoy life. Yet their happily-ever-after isn?t quite right when the dinosaurs discover each other?s annoying traits.
In Monkton?s imaginative world, male and female dinosaurs are similar to their human counterparts. Female dinosaurs occasionally let their thoughts wander and love shopping; male dinosaurs can be distant, peculiar and entranced by material things.
Monkton?s prose is unadorned but not boring. His straightforward words and story line show how easy a relationship can be if couples focus on the good.
Black and white illustrations accompany the sweet story. The simple drawings are uncomplicated yet interesting and add a charming layer to an already delightful book.
