The woman, identified as 29-year-old Taylor Kahle, had just eaten dinner in the city’s downtown and was walking home with a friend when she was struck, the San Diego Police Department said, according to NBC 7.
Kahle died at the scene, according to police, and the man who jumped later died at the hospital. He has not been identified.
Authorities said the friend was unharmed and determined that Kahle did not know the man who jumped.
San Diego Police Department officer John Buttle called it an “unfortunate occurrence” that took place near a parking garage along the 400 block of 10th Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Authorities said they do not know from which level in the structure the man had jumped.
Bouquets of flowers were left at the scene, along with one card that read, “We will not forget you or your smile.”
